Graphite rubbings are made using sheets of A 4 paper of the walls, ceilings and floors of the three exhibition rooms in the Galerie nächst St. Stephan in Vienna. All the rooms' surfaces are thus reproduced on paper. The sheets of paper are then bound into book form, transposing the surfaces into a new dimension. Each book begins with the walls, followed by the ceiling, and concludes with the floor. The books' pages present all inner surfaces of the three rooms, including the structures of the materials used in making the rooms, all irregularities such as holes and nails, and traces of past exhibitions. The pages of the book can be read like an abstract script; the smallest mutations such as windows or door-frames create sudden caesuras in the text or interpolate new patterns of information.
