Ideoscapes / Google Earth Scans

2019-2023

Karin Sander's Google Earth Scans are retrieved and printed directly from Google Earth 3D geospatial data. Approaching the digital data as found objects, the artist's minimal intervention consists of selecting the data at scales just big enough to contain each landscape/mountain and its surrounding context, given the maximum width of the printer's output.
A three-dimensional snapshot in color of Google data retrieved in the past, it represents these mountains of data as sublime landscapes modeled from light and shadow.
