Pre-Show: Identities on Display

13.03.2013 – 12.05.2013
Group Exhibition

Humboldt Lab Dahlem, Berlin
Berlin, Germany

Opening: 13.03.2013 19:00 Uhr

In the entrance area of the Dahlem Museums, Barbara Holzer and Tristan Kobler (Holzer Kobler Architekturen), together with artist Karin Sander, have installed the site-specific work Identities on Display. rriving visitors are requested to leave their coats and bags not at the oat check, as is customary, but in display cases especially made for his occasion in the entrance hall. Thus, even before actually visiting the exhibitions of the Ethnological Museum and the Asian Art Museum, visitors bring their own backgrounds and identities into play — in the form of a seemingly functional illustration of their world today. Pre-Show functions like a display of presence and absence, a floodgate between outside and inside, and prominently, albeit parenthetically, questions the way museum collections work today.
