Photography on Photography: Reflections on the Medium since 1960, Joyce and Robert Menschel Hall for Modern Photography
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

08.04.2008 – 19.10.2008
Group Exhibition

This installation of works from the permanent collection—the second in the Museum’s new gallery for contemporary photographs—surveys the ways in which artists have directed the camera toward photography itself, taking aim at its claims of transparency and objectivity, its ubiquity in modern life, and its inextricable ties to advertising and consumer culture. Artists include William Anastasi, Robert Heinecken, Allen Ruppersberg, Sherrie Levine, Thomas Ruff, Christopher Williams, Roe Ethridge, Liz Deschenes, Karin Sander, James Welling, and Kota Ezawa, among others.
